Krishna Janmashtami mantra for the Twelve Rashis
1. Janmashtami is celebrated on the eighth day of the Krishna paksha of the Bhadrapada month according to the Hindu calendar. It is considered to be the birthday of Krishna and is a huge festival in North India.
2. As Krishna was born in a jail where his parents were held captive by his evil uncle Kans. When Krishna was born, the chains of the jail broke and the doors flung open!
3. The symbolic meaning of this festival is that we all are engulfed in our darkness of greed, anger and selfishness. We must give birth to our own Krishna to defeat our internal barriers.
4. Decorating the Lord, people observe a fast on this day. Since Krishna was born at midnight, people throng to temples at midnight to celebrate his birth -- the temples are decorated beautifully on this day.
5. Not only this, at midnight Krishna is actually given birth and an idol of his is placed in the cradle. People come and rock his cradle just like they would do with a new-born child.
6. Just like other festivals, Janmashtami too celebrates the victory of good over evil. It represents the fact that evil, no matter how strong and powerful, will eventually be defeated, just like Krishna defeated his uncle Kans.
